Alleged Serious Offence At Denaby.

Yesterday, at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, Richard Glennon, miner, Denaby, was charged on remand with having assaulted Florence Pearson (15) at that place on the 12th July.

The girl’s statement was to the effect that she was an orphan residing with a married sister. On the day in question she was returning from Mexborough, when she saw the prisoner and two other men come out of the Reresby Arms Inn, Denaby.

She knew the prisoner and walked with him and his friends to the Terrace lnn, Kilnhurst, where they had some drink.

Afterwards as she and prisoner were returning through the fields to Denaby he twice assaulted her. She did not resist, and subsequently when he offered to marry her, she did not tell him how old she was.

Prisoner informed the magistrates that she told him she was eighteen years of age.

The case was dismissed.
