Alleged Theft from a Publican at Conisborough

Thomas Quinn, labourer, was charged with stealing a silver lever watch and chain, the property of Charles Balmforth, innkeeper, Hilltop Inn, Conisborough on the second inst.

Prosecutor stated that prisoner came into his house and asked for something to drink. He refused and ordered him to leave, but as prisoner declined to go he was obliged to put him out by force.

When prosecutor got back to his house he missed his watch, and went after prisoner. He demanded his watch, and prisoner denied that he had got it. He was handed over to the police. Next day he and a police constable found the watch behind the wall where the prisoner was apprehended.

Prisoner was committed for trial at the York Assizes.
