Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Tuesday 03 April 1877
Alleged Theft of Colliery Implements
Samvel Gedney, Denaby, was charged with stealing four drills, a scraper, a hammer, and a powder can, the property of the Denaby Main Colliery Company.
Mr. C. H. Hoyland prosecuted, and Mr. Willis defended.
On March 21th, the prisoner was removing his goods, when they were stopped by John Medd, the company’s watchman, and the articles in question were found amongst them.
The defence was that the company had 21s. in their hands as security for the tools, and that the prisoner had no felonious intention in removing them.
Committed to the sessions for trial.
