Alleged Unlawfully Wounding at Denaby
Jos. Cane Watkinson was charged with unlawfully wounding Elizabeth Clamp at Denaby Main on the 10th inst.
Mr. Hickmott asked that the prisoner be remanded in custody for a week, on the ground that the woman was injured severely and not out of danger. He put in a certificate, which stated that the woman was suffering from a scalp wound inflicted with a pick shaft, and from a bruise on the thigh, and that there was a possibility of erysipelas supervening.
Mr. Rhodes asked the Bench to admit the prisoner to bail, on the ground that the wound might not prove dangerous. He said erysipelas might supervene from any scalp wound, and any wound might prove dangerous—even a mere scratch on the nose.
The Chairman said: This wound is serious, and a scratch of the nose might not prove serious.
The prisoner was ordered to be detained in custody for a week.
