Among The Eighties.
Mrs. F. Gregory of Rossington Street, Denaby, on Saturday celebrates her 80th birthday, She has been a member of the Parish Church for many years and is on the Parochial Council.
She was in charge of the Primary Grade of the Sunday School until about seven weeks ago when she had a fall was admitted to Fullerton Hospital. Seen on Sunday evening by our Denaby correspondent she said she was ‘doing nicely’ and many be home for the week-end to celebrate her birthday.
Another person well known in Denaby Main will also join the octogenarian ranks in about two weeks’ time and she too was for many years a member of the Parish Church until she left the district a few years ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law at Flamborough.
We refer to Mrs. Elsie Coy, who with her husband (the late Mr. Tom Coy) did a great deal of work with the old Blythe Street Mission Sunday School, later called St. Chad’s and now demolished.
Mrs. Coy continued the work after her husband’s death, until she left for Sheffield. She later returned to live with her mother (the late Mrs. Wraithmell) in Tickhill Square and again resumed her church work until she left for Flamborough.
She still keeps an interest in Denaby and gets the local news through the ‘South Yorkshire Times,’ sent to her by a relative.
