An Assault at Conisborough
At Doncaster on Saturday, Wm. Gough. sen, bookmaker, Denaby, was charged with assaulting Martha Smith, a widow.
The Sunday night before, the complainant went to the public-house at Denaby for some supper beer.
Defendant went to her and accused her of having told his son that he wished to give her money to go to her house. He then struck her in the eye.
Complainant’s allegation was denied, and it was said the defendant struck the woman owing to her abusive language.
Defendant was fined 40s. including costs.
