An Ingenious Defence

Fredk. Barron, George Brooks, and Charles Tune, glassblowers, Mexbro’, were summoned for playing pitch and toss in Boat lane, Denaby, on Sunday, November 17th.

Mr. Hattersley defended, and called his clients to prove that they were out for a walk, and had simply thrown up a coin to decide which direction they should go.

Fined 2s. 6d. and costs each.

Frank Cartwright, Joseph Peters, and James Armstrong, boys, for a like offence, were fined 1s. and costs each.
