Another Assault upon the Police At Denaby.

Mark Crehah, alias Martin Hannan, filler, New Conisborough, was charged with having committed an assault upon P.C Jenkinson, at Denaby, on January 26th.

He was further charged with having damaged police uniform at the same time and place.

P.C Jenkinson deposed that at 2:15 PM on the date mentioned, whilst on duty near the Denaby colliery, he saw the prisoner leaving work, and asked him when he was going to pay a fine he was owing.

Prisoner remarked, “I’ll give you pay, I’ll knock your face-off.” There upon he turned around and dealt witness a violent blow in the mouth.

Witness closed with him and they fell to the ground where prisoner continue to kick and bite. W. Milner, the company’s watch man, came up and with difficulty he and witness succeeded in handcuffing prisoner.

After further evidence, prisoner was committed to Wakefield for two calendar months with hard labour.
