Another Judgement Summons.

A South Kirkby miner, named Isaac Woolridge was summoned at the instance of the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries Company Limited to show cause why he should not be committed to prison for neglecting to pay the sum of £6 7s damages obtained by the company for the defendant having left work without notice at the beginning of the strike in 1902.

Mr W. M. Gichard solicitor of Rotherham appeared as usual for the colliery company, and made application for the usual order.

The defendant appeared that he wwould pay if they would give him time.

The chairman said he understood the defendant was working at South Kirkby and according to the owner has an average weekly earnings of 25 shillings.

Thr defendant said he was not working more than two or three days a week he could not work every day as he had been hurt.

Chairman in spite of that you can earn 25 shillings per week, there had been no offer taken in two years and half to pay.

H said he had six boys of age and it could not be expected that he work every day.

The bench made the order for 5 shillings a week.
