Another Young Star in the Boxing Firmant At Denaby Main

Since Lol Richardson, J. Goddard and M. O’Neill hung up the gloves, Denaby Main has not been in the boxing news. Exception is Ken Booth, whose performances in N.C.B championship are recalled with a great deal of pleasure and now a new face has made an appearance.

In 1954 Colin Wilcox figured in a Tom Hill Youth Club tournament. Since then through his own interest and hard work he has gained ground in experience, helped by the kindness and encouragement of the Steel Peech and Tozer boxing club who have allowed him to train at the gym and have arranged contests for him. They advised him to enter the A.B.A. Junior championships this year.

He took their advice and he has won the Northern Counties Junior 8 stone title. This was accomplished at Hull, where he had three contests in the day and beat Sach of Hull boys club in the final. His success takes him forward to the national quarter finals at Birmingham.

Colin will be 17 in March and is a haulage hand at Cadeby Main and son of Mr. R. Wilcox of Braithwell Street, Denaby Main. One feature of his success is that bad weather has restricted his training.

He has been putting in work at the Tom Hill Youth Club alone except on occasion when he has been accomplished by his brother and another Denaby main enthusiast Mr. E. Oxer who has a very great interest in helping any boy keen on the game. After approximately 12 months this ia a notable success and special appreciation is expressed to Steel Peech and Tozer who paid Colin expense to Hull.
