Application Case from Denaby.

Isaac Meakins, trammer, Conisborough was summoned to show cause why he should not contribute towards the support of his child.

Ada Pears, Third Back Street, Denaby, said the child was born on the 30th June, 1895. She had been acquainted with the defendant for three years. He was a trammer at Denaby Main colliery. When she was confined, Meakin, the defendant, came in and placed 3s. in the baby’s hand saying, “it is my child, and I cannot despise it.”

Her mother had often seen them together.

Sarah Pears, mother of the last witness, proved to seen the parties together on many occasions.

The defendant earned an average wage of £1 a week. An order for 2s. 6d. was made and costs.
