Conisbrough Man Himself Stole

Appointed stock controller to prevent pilfering, 50 years old Robert Reay, of Low Road, Conisbrough took beer, stout and wines valued at about £8 to a 25-years-old Mexborough woman, Pamela Walker, factory worker of Garden Street, Mexborough, it was alleged at Doncastor West Riding Court on Tuesday.

Reay was fined £3 after pleading guilty to stealing the liquor and Walker was put on probation for a year when she pleaded guilty to receiving the stolen beer, stout and wines and asked for one other offence of stealing, as servant, sprays valued at 11s. 8 1/2 d. to be taken into consideration.

Supt. L. D. Lewery said that in March, Reay was promoted to the post of stock controller at the firm with the responsibility of seeing that there was no pilfering by employees.

Police visited Walker’s house and found a quantity of drink. When interviewed Reay said: ” That’s right. I took pity on her.”
