Denaby Utd – Denaby 1 Sheffield Club 1 – Draw against the Sheffield Club

12 April 1901

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 12 April 1901

Denaby United 1 Sheffield Club 1.

At Denaby, in bright whether, on Saturday, but on a saturated ground, before a moderate crowd.

Sheffield were soon offensive and Hardy cleared. Denaby began to attack, and Ryans forced a corner off Bolsover. From a foul in the home quarters Silvester put through, but was ruled offside. Robinson shot just wide from a freekick, whilst Hardy saved a fine long shot from G.Emmerson when hotly pressed. Denaby attacked hotly, but failed to score before half-time, when no score had been registered.

On resuming, Denaby pressed, and the Club defence underwent a very trying time, Bolsover saving some fine shots in grand style. In a sharp attack on the home goal, a mistake by the home backs enabled H.H.Hemmerson to score an easy goal. Denaby retaliated, and Bolsover, was kept busy, and from a foul close in Ryans equalised.

Denaby continued to press, Sheffield rarely reaching Hardy, but the Sheffield defence was sound.
