Denaby Utd – Denaby 3 Monk Bretton 2 – Good Friday Victory

14 April 1901

Mexborough and Swinton Times April 14.

Denaby United 3  Monk Bretton 2.

At Denaby on Friday, before a good attendance.

Denaby worked once aggressive, Bird just managing to clear when a goal appeared certain. Play proved exciting and even, and after 25 minutes Craven headed through for Monk Bretton.

Craven again broke through, but Hardy saved his shot, whilst directly afterwards a dangerous looking free kick was cleared by Whitehouse.

Half time: Monk Bretton 2, Denaby 1.

On resuming Ryan’s forced a corner, Hardy equalising.

Denaby put in some strong work, Robinson, giving them the lead.

A fine run by the home forwards ended in Hardy shooting wide, a feat also accomplished by Smith at the Denaby end.
