Assault at Cadeby Colliery

Wm. Ancore, miner, of Conisboro’, was summoned by Edward Jackson for assaulting him at Sprotbrough on July 28th.

Defendant pleaded guilty.

Mr. W. Baddiley prosecuted on behalf of the company, and stated that both parties were miners employed at the Cadeby Main Colliery.

On the 28th July, Jackson, at about two o’clock, was coming out of the pit, and stepping off the cage as Ancore was prepared to descend into the pit.

He said to Jackson, “What have you been saying about Tom.”

The complainant replied that he had been saying nothing but what was the truth.

The defendant then struck the complainant a violent blow on the face, giving him a black eye.

The company felt that it was a case in which they were justified in taking proceedings.

The defendant was ordered to pay 30s., including costs.
