Assault At Denaby Main.
William Roper was charged with assaulting Elizabeth Hobson, married woman, at Denaby Main, on the 21st November.
Defendant did not appear.
Complainant said defendant came to her house when her husband was away, but she told him to go away. She tried to prevent his ingress, when he struck her.
Defendant was no relation of hers, but had previously been a lodger. He had been living at Denaby some time, and he ‘would neither pay his wife or be peaceable without paying it.’
Police constable said he believed defendant had gone away.
Complainant said defendant had asked her to settle it, but she refused, as she could not do ‘with the disgrace and scandal’ which he caused her.
Fined 20s.
