Assault in a Mine
Cane Watkinson, collier, was summoned by Miles Norman, a trammer, for an assault committed in the Denaby pit on 22 March.
Complainant stated that the defendant, at about 630 o’clock in the evening, struck him on the side of the head, knocked him over, and then kicked him in the back. He had not been to work since and was still under medical treatment.
Norman complained to his deputy, Mr Schofield, and the Colliery Company instituted the present proceedings, he was represented by Mr Hickmott, solicitor.
Defendant said complainant had used bad language towards him on the previous day, and that he had hurt his back by following against something.
The defendant was fined £3 including costs.
