Assault of Two Women

Wm. Stokes, collier, Denaby, was charged with assaulting Emma Bailey and Eliza Hind, both of Mexbro’. From the evidence of complainants and their witnesses it appeared that they were proceeding home from Mexbro’ Feast on Monday, the 24th inst., when the defendant overtook them, and, without speaking a word, assaulted them both.

Defendant called witnesses, who stated that it was not the defendant but another man who committed the assault.

The Bench, however, believing the complainants’ statements to be true, fined the defendant 20s. and 13s. 6d. costs in each case
