Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 22 August 1902
Feeling in regard to the present dispute at Denaby and Cadeby is getting more intense, and on Monday culminated in an assault on the police.
Sergeant Turner been handled somewhat roughly in protecting the return home of the men were at work. This is very unfortunate and most regrettable.
The young fellow who struck the Sergeant was taken into custody and brought up to the cells at Conisborough, being followed by a crowd of layered lads and women, who treated the police to hooting and other soothing sounds of a like nature not to mention language of a forcible kind.
