Assaulting the Police

Charles Prendergast, collier, Denaby, was charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting PC Richardson on the 7th inst.

The officer said he was called to a disturbance in which prisoner was concerned and arrested him. Prisoner became violent and kicked witness on the leg causing a great deal of pain.

PC Jarvis corroborated.

Prisoner admitted being drunk, and said he did not remember anything.

Superintendent Blake sent prison was last before the court 14 years ago.

Prisoner was fined 5s and costs for the drunkenness, and 20s, including costs for the assault.
