Attempted Highway Robbery Near Conisborough
Yesterday morning, at the Doncaster West Riding Court, Benjamin Watkinson, of Bradford, was charged with attempted highway robbery.
It appeared that Mr. Henry Baker, brewer’s traveller, was walking from Conisborough to Denaby, when the prisoner walked past him and, stopping, said he was “a colliery gaffer,” and snatched his watch and chain. Mr. Baker recovered the watch and chain, but in doing so dislocated his thumb and wrenched the nail off. Prisoner followed him and struck him in the face. Mr. Baker followed the prisoner, and eventually gave him into custody.
Prisoner, who has been previously convicted, was remanded until Saturday.
