A Denaby “Annual”
Return Match with Mansfield Drawn Denaby 140 for 8 Mansfield 181 E Tibbles 63, Poole 6-63 G Annable 54; Worthington 6 for 34
Denaby had better fortune in the return “friendly” with Mansfield Colliery on Monday than in the opening game at Mansfield. A large crowd saw some good cricket.
A steady, chanceless effort by Annable was the feature of the Mansfield innings, and he had some support from Turner, Woods, Keeton and Ellis. Worthington bowled well to take four wickets for 34 runs, while Ford sent down a couple of overs, which brought him two wickets for five runs, the wickets being taken with successive balls. The Denaby fielding was a good deal smarter than usual. Narraway had a remarkable match, helping to dismiss seven batsmen.
Tibbles and Narraway set Denaby going with a partnership of 49 for the first wicket, and Narraway also made a useful contribution, but the remainder failed, and only the clock saved Denaby. Tibbles was sixth out, lasting till near the close, and batting very steadily, though he skied one back to the bowler, Turner, at 20, which was not accepted. Poole got six wickets for 63, bowling 19 overs.
