New Face
Remaining Matches
The Denaby Main team has been very considerably strengthened by the inclusion of Irvin Greenwood, the County Colt, who played his first Council match for Denaby last Saturday.
I’m glad to hear that he is happy in the change that has been made, and is very likely to settle at Denaby Main, where we expect to see many a big innings from him. He is a very useful change bowler and a fine field.
Denaby Main play their last home game in the Yorkshire Council today, when they entertain Sheffield United, who should provide the most attractive match of the season.
Their only outstanding Council fixture after that is with Frickley away on September 9, but on August 31. They play home friendly with Rotherham for Darker’s benefit, and on September 22 (Friday) they have a full day exhibition match with the Yorkshire County team. It is rather late in the season, but given the average weather for late September it ought to be a very pleasant and interesting picture, and attract a big crowd.
The match has been arranged by Reg Allen, the Castleford and Co wicket-keeper, and it follows immediately on a similar fixture arranged for the Doncaster district.
As the Yorkshire players are fully engaged until the end of the Scarborough Festival, the their visit to Denaby could not have been made any earlier.
The Denaby team will no doubt include one or two leading district players, and will certainly be made as strong as possible.
