B.E.M. for Conisbrough Instructor

A Conisbrough Warrant Officer serving with the Royal Army Service Corps was awarded the B.E.M. in the New Year’s Honours List.

Warrant Officer Kenneth Douglas wrote to his mother, Mrs. Jessie Anderson, at her home at 33, Chambers Avenue, Conanby, Conisbrough, to tell her the good news. In his letter C.S.M. Douglas, at present serving with the 75 Army Youth Team at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield, says he understands the honour was in recognition of his work with the Junior Leaders’ Battalion.

C.S.M. Douglas has been chief adventure training instructor with the battalion, and instructor with the Outward Bound School in North Wales.
During his service from the age of 17½, C.S.M. Douglas has travelled throughout the world, and he was responsible for filming a Services Expedition to Alaska.

Mr. Anderson told the “South Yorkshire Times”: “Kenneth has always been very keen on the outdoor life, and even as a youngster he used to love to ‘rough it’.”

C.S.M. Douglas, a former pupil of Conisbrough Northcliffe Secondary School, is married with six children.

His two brothers have both served in the Army, Raymond (32) with the R.A.S.C., and Brian (34) with the Royal Engineers.
