Ball Hit a Light Bulb

And Cost £40 at Denaby

One rubber ball thrown in Denaby Baths last Thursday night has cost Conisborough Urban Council about £40, for the ball accidentally hit an electric light bulb, smashed it and caused broken glass to fall into the bath, which had to be emptied and re-filled.

The accident occurred during a club swimming session. The bath was emptied, cleared and re-filled on Friday.

Mr. Cyril Rich, Baths Superintendent told a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter that the staff of three men and himself were working hard all day on Friday to make it possible for the baths to re-open on Saturday morning.

They were working against time to get the water heated to the required temperature and a boiler man was working all night on Friday “stoking up.” They managed to get the water heated and available by 7.30 a.m.

He said the cost of the water to fill the bath, the purification and heating, was about £40.
