Bank Holiday

A Brilliant Day

The people of the Don Valley spent an enjoyable holiday, mainly in the pursuit outdoor recreation.

Conisborough, Askern, Roche Abbey, and other district pleasure resorts were visited many, while others took advantage of the cheap railway excursion facilities, over 800 coming from Doncaster to Conisbrough alone.

From a sports point view, the “star turn” was the Midland League match at Denaby, where 2,000 spectators saw the home side beat Leeds City Res. 3 goals 1.

At night the Prince of Wales’s Theatre and the Picture Hall drew crowded audiences at Mexborough, and at Denaby there was largely-attended and successful whistdrive and dance, which brought, substantial assistance to the Denaby Main Ambulance Camp Fund.
