United Were First to Net.
Bourne Town 5 Denaby United 2
Denaby put up a plucky fight at the Abbey Lawn, Bourne, but unable on hard ground they never looked like gaining their first win of the season even after Leivers, leading the attack, had give them the lead after 6 minutes.
All and got the other Denaby goal after the interval. Otherwise Twell, the Doncaster 17 years old in the home goal, was not placed in many situations of difficulty.
The Denaby half back line with Taylor a tower of strength in the middle, never allowed itself to be overrun by the speed of the Bourne attack, but it had not tried to give much closer poor to a forward line in which Leivers tried very hard without getting much change out of the Wakes’ tall young pivot Notley.
Leivers only goals came after 6 min when he nipped into profit by a misunderstanding between right back Fisher and Twell. Within 3 min, Bourne were level through goal by Notley when centre forward Sissons worked through on the left.
Sissons at this stage was causing some concern to the Denaby defence. By using the wings more than the centre and he tried the move again after 20 min and inside right Johnson slipped into the centre to score easily.
Erratic Finishing.
Notley got his second goal 5 min after the interval when Staslukiewicz, one-handed reached a cross drive but could not prevent it crossing the line. United occasionally made an attack but they were erratic both in passing and finishing until Holden snapped up a good goal with a drive from 18 yards live from a centre on the right. The shot beat Twell all ends up.
There were a number of petty fouls – too many in fact – on both sides and Foster had his name taken by the referee, but the left back was not in any way concerned with an incident after 74 min when. Sissons went down in collision with goalkeeper Stats. Notley completing his hat trick from the penalty spot.
Denaby were under heavy pressure from then on and both Evans and Johnson hit the post. Lane completed the scoring five minutes from the end.
