Boxing at Denaby

A programme the Miners’ Welfare Baths, Denaby Main, on Saturday night, attracted a good attendance.

The principal bout, between Billy Smith (Denaby) and Johnny Regan (Maltby), over twelve rounds, was drawn.

The first five rounds were easily in favour of Smith, but Regan improved, and came into his own in the seventh, sending Smith to his knees. In the tenth round both men hit hard, and Regan was knocked through the ropes, to be assisted back by Smith’s seconds. Regan scored all the points in the last round, and he did well to send Smith to the ropes on two occasions.

In the final of the schoolboys’ competitions. J. Dainty (Denaby) beat Sando (Denaby) on points, over six rounds. Sando fought back remarkably well.

Young Bott (Conisborough) beat Young Pointen (Mexborough) on points, four rounds, and Young Severns (Mexborough) beat Young Oxley (Swinton) on points, four-rounds
