Breach of Rules at Denaby Main Colliery

Joseph Taylor, of Denaby, was summoned for having infringed special rule 16 at Denaby Main Colliery, on March 30th, by going into a part of the mine other than that in which he was appointed to work, without the permission of the manager or under-manager or deputy.

Mr. Hickmott, who appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Denaby Main Colliery Company said that defendant went to a man called Richard Kelly, in another part of the mine, and accused him of taking one of his tubs and also struck him. The defendant had no right to go into another man’s working place.

It was not for the assault that the case was brought before the court, but it was a matter of discipline in the mine.

Richard Kelly gave evidence, and the magistrates imposed a fine on defendant of 10s. and costs.
