Breaches of Colliery Rules at Denaby

Arthur Privers, filler, Conisborough, was charged with having committed a breach of colliery special rule 106.

The offence consisted defendant having travelled along a “jinney” (an incline road) in defiance of the order of the brakesman.

Defendant was ordered to pay 30 shillings, including costs.

William Hoult, miner, Mexborough, was charged with having committed a breach of special rule four. In this case defendant was specifically charged with having thrown stones at a prop with intent to knock it down, and thus let down the roof of the pit.

Defendant pleaded guilty, and a penalty of 20 shillings inclusive of costs was imposed.

These prosecutions were instituted by the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries company Ltd, were represented by Mr Frank Allen, Doncaster.
