Break-In

A heavy steel safe taken from the grocery and provisions Department of Doncaster co-operative Society shop in Church Street, Conisbrough, on Friday evening, has been found by police in a field a short distance from the premises.

The door of the safe has been forced open and it is understood that about £37 is missing. Entry was gained to the shop by smashing metal bars on a ground floor window at the rear of the shop. Also missing are about £68 worth of cigarettes.

Also in the safe were about £135 worth of cooperative saving stamps and milk tokens, but these have been recovered from the safe. The shop is only about 40 yards from Conisbrough police station.
