British Legion – Officers and Comfort Fund

Mr. Philip Brocklesby, Commander of the Conisborough Home Guard, has been appointed secretary of the Conisborough British Legion in succession to the late Mr. T. J. Thompson, who died recently.

Mr Brocklesby was formerly treasurer of the branch and these duties have now been taken over by Mr. Harry Appleyard.

A new office that of assistant secretary, has been created and the duties attaching to this post are being carried out by Mr. James Jordan.  The late Mr. Thompson was also secretary to the Legion benevolent committee, but his successor in this connection has not yet been appointed.

The British Legion is doing its share to provide for the comfort of members of H.M. Forces in Conisborough and a room at the National Services Club in Brook Square has been set on one side for use as a reading and writing room by soldiers.

In addition, an effort is being made to start a canteen at the club for the benefit of the military and the local Food Officer has already been approached by Legion officials regarding rations for tea, sugar, etc.
