Brodsworth 69 Denaby & Cadeby 138
Two youthful aspirants to Council cricket played a prominent part in Denaby s victory over Brodworth. at Brodsworth. Batting first. Denaby made 138 of which Ellis, a 16 year old youth from Conisbrough C.C.. scored 41, and Cory, a Mexborough youth, a useful 23. The latter also had a share in the bowling honours, taking 2 for 19. Other notable scorers were Brown (16), Porter (24), and Bateson (12).
Against the bowling of Holland (4 for 12) and Robinson (3 for 241, Brodsworth were all out for 69 (Nutton 17. Mountford 16, Sentscal 10 not out, Baines 12). For Brodsworth. Hanson had 4 for 28. Baines 2 for 41, and Sentscal for 40
Elsecar 74 Mexborough 75 for 8
An “all-or-nothing batting display by J. Howarth and A. Vickers in an eighth wicket stand put on 32 runs and gave Mexburough a two wickets’ victory over Elsecar.
Elsecar batted first. Widdison and Baxter were both dismissed for seven. Whittaker and Bamford carried the score to 28 for tour, but two more wickets tell with only 31 on the board. R. White and F. Wrightson 19), made a stand of 30, but the innings closed at 74.
Mexborough’s first wicket fell at 23 but the bowling of Bannister and White sent seven men back for 46. Vickers (23 not out) and Howarth (10 not out) then went on to knock up the runs for a loss of a further two wickets. The former had two successive 6’s and the latter two 4’s. Vickers also took 6 wickets for 19. A feature of the Elsecar fielding was two brilliant one handed catches by White and Baxter, and one in the long field by Howarth. E. White. Mexborough’s wicket keeper did fine work and not a single extra was allowed.
Thorncliffe 78 Hickleton 82 for 2
Hickleton’s Easy Win
Thorncliffe, at home, were easily defeated by Hickleton. Thorncliffe batted first and were dismissed for 78 (R Howson 26E Stevenson 12, F Hollingsworth 10). Riley and Hutchinson bowled well for Hickleton taking 5 for 20 and 4 for 47 respectively.
Hickleton made 82 for two, Alban Turner scored a breezy 54, including four 6’s and six 4’s. Probert scored 18, his scoring strokes being three sixes. Colley took the two Hickleton wickets.
Brampton Go for 30
Swinton 31 for 4 Brampton 30
Brampton tell easy victims to the bowling of I. Ellison and F. Ellis, and were beaten by six wickets at Swinton. In less than 75 minutes Brampton were dismissed for 30, due to the brilliant bowling of Ellison (6 for 15), and Ellis (4 for 15). Three Brampton men failed to score, and Wake (7) was the highest scorer.
Swinton knocked off the runs for the loss of four wicket!. G. Barnett was caught and bowled first ball of the innings, but H. Parkin (15) and L. Bedford (6 not out) knocked off the runs. Brampton’s best bowler was Wardle (3 for 22).
