Broken Glass at Conisboro’
A gentleman rejoicing in the name of Ser Street, and described as a miner, of Conisboro’, was summoned for leaving glass on the highway at Conisboro’ on the 24th May.
Defendant appeared and pleaded guilty.
P.C. Duthin deposed that at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the 24th ult., he was on duty in Low-road, Conisboro’, when he saw the defendant, who was accompanied by his wife and two other friends, coming from the direction of the Three Horse Shoes beerhouse.
When they got near Mr. Walter’s pork butcher’s shop, a bottle that was in defendant’s pocket burst, and dropped on to the footpath.
Defendant was walking away when witness called him back, and called his attention to the danger there was if the glass was left on the footpath.
He obtained a brush, and swept the pieces into the gutter, but witness asked him to pick the pieces up, as they were dangerous.
Defendant refused, and said, “I’ve been a councillor, and perhaps know more about the matter than you do.”
The defendant, who appeared, was fined 10s., including the costs.
