Brothers Quarrel at Conisborough
Tom Curtis, labourer, Conisborough, was summoned by Bill Curtis, for an assault alleged to have been committed at Conisborough of February 25. The parties are brothers.
Bill Curtis said the defendant worked for him and came late to work. He told him if he could not, the proper time you have better leave. He went away, and on the 25th returned in a drunken state, and demanded things which belonged to him. The complainant went with him into a stable to get things when the defendant tried to strangle him.
George Harry Purdey, who was present, said the defendant grasped his brother by the throat, and they stumbled against a horse in the stable. They then went outside and had another “scrap”.
Ann Curtis, wife of the Company, gave similar evidence, and added that the defendant also struck her.
The defendant, who did not appear, was fined 40s, including the costs, which amounted to 22s.
