Burdened By Rates.

Complaints at Meeting of the Denaby Cricket Club.

Complaints against the burden of rates and taxation in the Denaby Cricket, Tennis and Bowls clubs were made the annual meeting of the Club last night by Mr. W. Wilkinson, chairman of the Cricket Committee.

The balance sheet showed that the rales to the amount of .£l7 6s. 8d. had been paid to the Conisborough Urban District Council and that approximately £l8 was still owing. In addition the club had to pay £10 in property taxes.

“The amount the rates are called upon to pay is disgraceful Mr. Wilkinson said. “This applies not only to us but sports clubs all over the country, and it is out all reason that we should have to pay from rates and in taxes for a four months season.

Mr. Wilkinson added that the club had lodged an appeal respect of the rates.

The balance standing to the credit of the club was under £4.

Mr. F. Waring, hon. secretary said the cricket club had finished 50th in the Yorkshire Council .

The tennis club had won the Mexborough Lawn Tennis Association championship. The bowls section men had won the Rotherham League cup and the Kelly challenge cup and the women the Mexborough bowling league and the Montagu challenge Cup.

Mr. G. L. Robinson was elected a life member of the club and the principal officers elected were president, Mr. W. H. Chambers; hon. secretary. Mr. F. Waring; and hon. treasurer. Mr. W. Wilkinson.
