Burning Fatality at Denaby Main.
On Friday morning a shocking burning case occurred at Denaby Main. It appears the father of a child, Thomas Caddick, miner, 11, Tickhill Street. Denaby Main, went to his work at the colliery shortly after five o’clock, leaving his wife and child in bed.
About half-past six the mother was awakened by hearing screams from downstairs. On hastening thither she found one of her children. Bertha Eliza Caddick, a little girl of seven, all in flames, her nightdress having caught fire while in the act of making the fire. The mother put out the flames, and on the arrival of Dr. Twigg and his assistant, Dr. Howes, they found the burns were of such a nature both internally and externally that her recovery was hopeless, and she expired on Friday night.
On Monday an inquest was held at the Station Inn, Conisboro’, before Mr. F. E. Nicholson, touching the death of the deceased. Mr. Geo. Booth was foreman of the jury. A verdict to the effect that deceased was “Accidentally burnt to death” was returned.
