James Springthorpe (Junior)

In 1911 James Springthorpe lived with his parents, James (aged 43) and Eliza (aged 36). They had been married for 18 years. His father came from Coalville in Leicestershire and his mother from Halifax in Yorkshire.

Also in the house was their daughters, Altha (15), Cecelia (11) ands Edna (7), all born in Swinton.
James had another brother, Amos aged 3 born in Denaby

With them was father in law John Elliott (70) and mother in law Eliza Elliott (64)
They also had an adopted son, William Travis Lyons, aged 21 from Barnsley

The Coroner announced that James Springthorpe, the deputy of the south district, who had lost a son in the second explosion, and had himself narrowly escaped, was too ill to appear and give evidence, and Mr. Wilson had taken a statement from him, which he ( the Coroner ), would read aloud.
