Careless Cadeby miners

Frederick Butler, miner, Denaby, was charged with breach of the regulation of mines at Denaby Main Colliery on January 16.

Mr Hickmott prosecuted on behalf of the Colliery Company, and had a model of colliery Roofing in order to enable magistrates to understand his meaning.
The offence of the defendant was that he allowed 9 foot of roofing to remain unprotected, whereas in that space he should have set three props.
Fined five shillings and costs

Thomas Bates, miner, Denaby, was also charged with breach of the Regulation of Mines act on January 16.

Mr Hickmott prosecuted in this case, and the offence being similar to the last, a fine of five shillings and costs was inflicted.

David Westwood, miner, Denaby, was charged with a breach of special rule number 100 at Cadeby Main Colliery on January 19

Mr Hickmott stated that under this rule a miner was required to keep a good and sufficient roof over his working place, and defendant had neglected to set the necessary props.
Fined five shillings and costs.

James Donoghue, miner, Denaby was charged with a similar offence at the Cadeby Main Colliery on January 19
