March 1964

South Yorkshire Times April 4.

Celebrations.

This is a time of double celebration for 22 years old Conisbrough nurse Miss Joan Jowitt. Just before Easter Joan, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest Jowitt, of Old Road, learned that she had passed her S. R. N. Examination, after nearly 7 years of training.

Tomorrow (Saturday) she is to be married at Denaby Parish Church to 23 years old chartered surveyor, Neil Pearson, whose mother, Mrs Mildred Pearson, is caretaker at Conisbrough Council Offices.

Joan took a pre-nursing course at Mexborough Schofield Technical College after leaving Conisbrough Northcliffe’s school at 18. Three years ago she qualified for the orthopaedic Nursing Certificate and since then has been completing general training at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.

After the marriage the couple plan to live at Rotherham, and John is to work Middlewood hospital, Sheffield. In May the couple hope to be celebrating again when the results of Neil’s examinations are announced.
