Mr. W. Pearson
Well-known figure in Conisbrough and Denaby

Mr. William Pearson (61), of St. Bees, Low Road, Conisbrough, died in the Rotherham Moorgate hospital on Wednesday after a short illness. Mr Pearson, who was well-known in the Conisbrough and Denaby districts, was employed by the National Coal Board in the Providence offices at Denaby, where he was Chef Wages Clerk, in which post he gave loyal and devoted service.

Before nationalisation he had worked for the Amalgamated Denaby collieries in a similar capacity since leaving school.

An enthusiastic church worker, he was vicars warden at Conisbrough for many years and financial secretary to the church council for 25 years.

Mr Pearson was born in Denaby and was educated at the Rossington Street School. He was a widower (his wife died 3 ½ years ago) and his only daughter is Mrs. Joan Wynn, also of St. Bees, who looked after him before he was eventually taken to hospital, suffering from nervous strain.

There will be a funeral service at Conisbrough Parish Church and Monday morning and cremation will take place at Sheffield.
