Wednesday was Children’s Day at Conisborough in connection with the local War Weapons Week, and at all the schools in the area there was an exhibition of posters designed by the children.

At the Balby Street School there was a particularly impressive demonstration for the visitors. Coun. D. Sheldon, Chairman of the local Savings Committee, presented poster prizes.

Winners in the junior department were Doreen Briggs, Gordon Waddington, Harry Cole, Jean Downing, Irene Lesley and Betty Morley, whilst the Infants Department prizes were awarded to Frances Whittaker, Rita Sharpes, Raymond Day, Robert Adams, Lorna Sabin, Donald Sanderson, Edna Faulkner, Margaret Kelwick, Brian Cheetham, Vera Thompson, Peggy Gibson and Brian Robinson.

During the afternoon the children of the Infants Department gave concert items and the junior children contributed an historical pageant “Britain’s Finest Hours”, specially written by Miss D. Denham a member of the staff of the school.

Up to Tuesday a sum of over £586 had been raised by the various schools in the area
