Children’s Food.

Alleged to Have Been Stolen by Conisborough Father.

The allegation that man stole food which had been left for his children was made against John Hinchliffe, a 40-year-old miner, who pleaded “Not guilty” at Doncaster West Riding Police Court yesterday to a charge of neglecting his five children.

Prosecuting for the N.S.P.C.C., Mr. W. L. Crawford said that for the 17 weeks previous to September 15th the man’s wife and children lived through the kindness and assistance of Mr. Tom McAllister at 17, Fitzwilliam Street, Conisborough.

Defendant’s life had become one of gambling, drinking, and ill-using his wife. This upset the home. The children had been provided with clothing by friends, but the defendant had provided nothing for them. He even stole food which had been left for them.

The Bench decide that it was a case that should go to trial, and adjourned it for a week in order that it may completed, and Hinchliffe was remanded in custody.
