Clifford Parker Transferred to Portsmouth

After 2½ seasons with Doncaster Rovers, Clifford Parker, who went to the Doncaster club after Mexborough had decided not to retain him, has been transferred to Portsmouth at what is understood to be quite a large fee.

Parker, who was first mentioned in these columns six years ago when he was an outstanding member of the Mexboro’ district schools side which did so well in the English Shield, is an outside-left and hails from Denaby. The Mexboro’ district team referred to beat, among other sides, Liverpool, who included Scoo, the clever Chinese forward now with Stoke.

Parker joined Mexboro’ on leaving school but after a period with the reserves, during which he had several trials with the Midland League side, he was not retained and went to Doncaster, who signed him on the form he showed in their 1931 trial games.

He made 28 appearances with Doncaster’s Third Division side last season and this season has scored four goals. He is 20 years of age, stands 5ft. 6ins. and weighs 11st. He has a good turn of speed and a hard shot.

Doncaster have felt compelled to part with him owing to insufficient support and their early dismissal from the F.A. Cup competition.
