Prison for Mexborough Man
Coal Stealing at Cadeby
For stealing coal from Cadeby colliery, Emmanuel Guy, unemployed, Mexborough, was at Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Tuesday sent to prison for 14 days.
He admitted taking coal out of a wagon, but said he did not take the coal away.
Mr CR Marshall, prosecuting, said that on the morning of March 6 and Liam Marshall, a crane driver employed by the company, was following employment at the top of the dirt stack at Cadeby Colliery.
The other men had gone away to breakfast. He saw defendant climb out of the wagon attached to the crane and throw some coal out. He had previously seen him picking from the tip, a practice which he understood was allowed to a certain extent. The workmen came back, they went and saw the defendant, who denied having been in the wagon
Defendant, in court, said he did not get into the wagon. He lifted a piece of coal but did not take it away.
Defendant had five previous convictions. He said he had been out of work three years.
