Coal Stealing at Denaby

Annie Pettit, 13, was summoned for having on the 21st February stolen four stones weight of coal, value 3d., the property of the Denaby Main Colliery Company.

Mr. Hickmott prosecuted.

The offence was admitted.

Mr. Hickmott in stating the facts, said the girl was brought before the court February of the present year on a similar charge, and the parents then promised to look better after her.

Colonel St. Leger said he was afraid the practice was systematic one, and that the child was sent out get coal where she could.

A fine of 20 shillings, including costs, was imposed.
