Joined But Not Together

Two young Conisborough friends serving somewhere up north but in different regiments are Pte. George Stanley Coe, Church Street, and 24 year old Private William Ackroyd, also of Church Street.

Pte. Coe, a native of Conisborough is in the Duke of Wellington´s Regiment, and before joining up had for nearly four years been in business in Conisborough as a boot and shoe repairer. Previously he was employed at Yorkshire Main Colliery, Edlington.

Private Ackroyd, another native of Conisborough, is in the Royal Scots, which he joined in March. In civil life he was on the Doncaster branch staff of Messrs. Mellias Ltd., grocers and ten weeks before his enlistment he was married at the Parish Church to Miss Mollie Greathead, a member of a well-known Conisborough family.

His parents have a bakers and confectioners business in Church Street, Conisborough.
