Collecting Her Debts at Denaby.—An Unpleasant Reception.
Sarah Ridge, of Denaby, was charged by Ann Lefley, of Doncaster, with assaulting her at Denaby on the 27th ult.
Mr. G. F. Barras (Messrs. Budger, Rhodes, & Co.) appeared on behalf of the complainant, and stated that twelve months ago, Mrs. Lefley left Mexboro’ for Doncaster. At the time she left Mexboro’, a great many persons were owing her money, and amongst the number was the defendant. The complainant came over to Mexbro’ and the neighbourhood occasionally, and when last at the house of the defendant, the latter swore at her and knocked her out of the house.
The complainant said she now kept the Horse and Groom Inn, Doncaster, and she corroborated the statement made by Mr. Barras, adding that defendant now owed her £3 3s. 6d.
Several witnesses were called for the defence, who denied that the defendant assaulted the complainant and stated that the complainant was very annoying to Mrs. Ridge.
The magistrates dismissed the case.
