Colliery Absenteeism

A notice has been posted this week at the Cadeby Colliery pointing out that the average “absenteeism” amounts to about 80 persons per shift, and with ten shifts a week this means that 800 less shifts have been worked throughout each week of the month of June than need have been.

Allowing for illness it is reasonable to assume that there have been several “lakers,” and it is this custom which causes disorganisation at a colliery.
