Colliery Official and His Wife.
At Doncaster on Saturday, Hugh Ross, Denaby, was summoned by his wife Annie for persistent cruelty, in consequence of which she applied for a separation order.
The parties were married in Scotland in September 1897 and there are four children of the union.
Complainant said that her had struck her on about 100 different occasions and she had been obliged to leave him account of his threats.
On the 2nd August struck her the face, and having some plates in her hand, she threw them at him. He got her down in the house, and tried to strangle her, remarking that he would “do” for her. She eventually got away, and going out of the house, he followed her and whilst on the floor he kicked her. She had previously left him account of his conduct.
Defendant admitted having struck her twice, under great provocation, and also added that she was addicted to drink, and had pawned numerous articles of clothing.
A separation order was granted, defendant to allow her £1 per week, she to have the custody the children.
Defendant: I shan’t pay her.
